eLearning and Bloom’s Taxonomy

eLearning is not appropriate for everything.  It is more useful for the lower end of Bloom’s cognitive outcomes:

  1. Evaluation
  2. Synthesis
  3. Analysis
  4. Application
  5. Compehension
  6. Knowledge

Application, comprehension, and knowledge outcomes lend themselves well to the kinds of learning objectives at which eLearning excels:

  • List, define …
  • Describe, identify …
  • Complete, classify …

If your learning objectives start with the foregoing list of words (or similar words), your training may be a candidate for eLearning.
